A Mother’s Day Message to ALL the Women of Africa
A profound message of legacy & action from our Patron, Honourable Pinky Kekana (immediate past SG of PAWO & current SA Deputy Minister of Communications & Digital Technologies)
“I am an African mother first & foremost, before I am anything else.
I am a mother not only to my own 2 children but to so many across the continent. Even before I had my children, I had the responsibilities of nurturing & caring, just like all women across our beautiful land.
The mothers of Africa have put food on the table, & put children through school & university through hard work & determination. They are leaders in both the formal & informal economic sectors, while still caring for their own children & those in their communities, in a time when women are still marginalised.
“The African woman has remained the world’s most precious, but most under-valued commodity.” ~ Ma’am Pinky Kekana, PABWA Patron
We have so much to be grateful for, to those who came before us, in how far we have come in gender equality, but we have so much more work to do in ensuring true empowerment of the women in Africa.
On this Mother’s Day I want to thank all the women who have quietly activated the economies of Africa while keeping their children & the children of others’ safe, warm, & fed.
YOU are the heart & soul of this continent.
I salute you!
Africa salutes you!”
